An extraordinary day for the Fantic Racing Team: first victory of the season and first time on the top step of the podium for Aron Canet in Moto2. For the first time since arriving in the Category, a Team Fantic Racing driver is leading the World Championship.
The 24-year-old Spanish rider, already a six-time winner in the Moto3 class, had been on the Moto2 podium 20 times before today, but never on the top step. He succeeded today, on a memorable day in Portimao, giving Fantic his second victory in Moto2, in his second season in this highly competitive category.
Starting from the front row, Canet managed the tires in the initial phase. Lap after lap he managed to get back into the top positions. With 11 laps to go he took the lead and earned his first, well-deserved, victory in Moto2.
